Atlanta’s Journey for Civil Rights Bike Tour

Join us on a revealing journey through Atlanta’s civil rights history as we connect the dots from the Antebellum South to the present-day. On this tour we’ll share key stories leading up to the Civil War, the challenges of Reconstruction and the Jim Crow era that followed. We’ll discuss events that gave rise to Atlanta’s history-making African-American leaders and how they ultimately laid the foundation for the birth of the modern-day Civil Rights Movement. This tour provides a safe space for people from all walks of life to come together, gain insight and knowledge as we, as a nation, continue to strive for comprehensive social justice for all our citizens.

Sites we’ll explore include: Reynoldstown, a community settled by former enslaved people; the birthplace and burial site of Dr. Martin Luther King; Ebenezer Baptist Church; the Historic Sweet Auburn Neighborhood and Business District; Oakland Cemetery; Dr. King’s statue at the State Capitol Building; the site of the 1906 Race Riot as well as murals and sculptures that speak to issues of social justice.
